A Look at the IRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaner
I take a look at one of the newest models of the Roomba series of vacuum cleaning robots to hit the markets is the Roomba 562 Pet Series. This particular model was made to meet the needs of those who own pets or who are sensitive to allergens
As soon as I got home I put the Roomba to the test. It did an excellent job, sucking up all the hair and getting into spots my other vacuum couldn't (like under the couch). This robot was designed to clean up hairy situations with an efficiency that you wouldn't normally expect from such a small device. The Roomba automatically adjusted from hard floors to carpets and back again. You can also restrict the Roomba to off limit areas with the improved Virtual Wall Lighthouse.
The Roomba practically cleaned my whole house with a single charge and starting it was as easy as the touch of a button. Unlike other models of cleaning robots, with the Roomba 562 Pet Series there is no need to check the battery to see if it needs a recharging or not. When the cleaning ws complete the Roomba automatically returned to the self charging base to recharge. It did the same when the battery started to run low. It is also possible to set up a cleaning schedule, the Roomba 562 Pet Series will automatically start to clean at the set times. Up to seven of these convenient vacuum cleanings can be preset each week.
The Roomba is not perfect, as it tended to stray away from the docking station suddenly and broadside it while cleaning. It was also supposedly capable of disentangling itself from rug tassels and power cords, but routinely found itself caught up in the cords behind the TV. I also found the Roomba to be quite noisy, somewhat louder than a hand held vacuum and at about 20-25 minutes per room the noise can be disturbing.
The Roomba 562 came with a replacement brush kit, which ensured an easy replacement and cleaning of the brushes. I found that cleaning the brushes on a regular basis kept the Roomba operating at it peak performance. Two replacement filters help trap the dirt, dust and dander inside the robot. Emptying the bins was a snap but removing long hairs can be somewhat cumbersome.
In conclusion I was quite happy with the results of the Roomba and I would recommend the Pet Series to anyone who is very busy juggling pets, kids and other cleaning chores.
